LOOKING AT THE JENNIFER MEE CASE

Questions over Jennifer Mee Case

Jennifer Mee was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole in 2013 after being found guilty of first degree murder but there are so many factors in this case which do not warrant the sentence she received.

BACKGROUND TO THE CASE

As a nineteen year old in 2010 Jennifer arranged to meet a young man whom she had contacted through Facebook, but Jennifer was not interested in romance, her motive was robbery and with the help of her two male companions robbed the victim who was fatally shot in the process. Under Florida law, all participants in a fatal robbery/mugging are equally guilty of murder whether they were directly or indirectly involved in the murder.

QUESTIONS

1. Was the killing intentional/premeditated? Answer: No

2. Is Jennifer responsible for another person's use of a firearm? Answer: No

3. Did Jennifer use violence in this crime? Answer: No

4. Did Jennifer have any previous convictions? Answer No

5. Did Jennifer have a previous record of violence? Answer: No

6. Did Jennifer display any malice/hostility toward the victim? Answer: No

7. Is Jennifer a danger to the community if released? Answer: No

There is no doubt whatsoever that none of the trio ever intended to kill the victim but rather during the scuffle one of Jennifer's companion's pulled a gun on the victim with fatal consequences. Jennifer should not be held responsible for the outcome from a firearm which is in the hands of someone else anymore than the passengers of an automobile being charged with being drunk under the influence if their driver has had one too many.

Jennifer did not participant in the murder itself, but she seems to have been the victim of a flawed Florida law which has changed the definition of murder for whatever reason because the definition of what Jennifer did was manslaughter.

As for Jennifer having any previous convictions or any previous record of violence there is nothing on her record so why wasn't this taken into consideration at sentencing?

There is no evidence of any malice/hostility shown toward the victim which is a motivating factor in many murders.

The one question no one knows the answer to is "What justification is there for the sentence Jennifer received?"

I first became aware of Jennifer's situation in 2018 after watching her appear in Criminal Investigation presented by Piers Morgan.

Jennifer does have a website which was setup by a supporter, it is www.jmeefree.com
